Robyn's Death & Family Memorial Trip

Created by Pam 12 years ago
Robyn died of cardiac arrest as a result of going into septic shock, triggered by a sepsis infection. Robyn had gone to Oahu on July 20, 2011 to visit her friend Reggie. She fell in love with him and also fell in love with Oahu. She came home for a week on September 21 to be home for Kyle’s birthday and finish her move to Oahu. On November 3, eight family members flew to Honolulu (Karl, myself, Kyle and his girlfriend Noel, my mother, my sister Patt, my brother Barry and his wife Laura). We were joined by Robyn’s boyfriend Reggie. On Saturday November 5 we all took a catamaran out into the sea from Waikiki. The catamaran was operated by 3 crew members and joining them was the funeral director and a Methodist minister. The minister conducted a beautiful service after we arrived at what would be Robyn’s final resting place. After the service we went to scatter Robyn’s ashes and lots of dolphins surfaced and then disappeared. I am convinced that there were 9 dolphins...one for each of us…to take care of Robyn. After scattering Robyn’s ashes, we threw flowers (plumerias) from leis into the ocean. It was a very emotional and moving memorial. May her soul rest in peace. There were many signs sent by God to let us know she was OK… 1. Before leaving for Honolulu, my friend, Pat Appling, brought us a gift of a beautiful “memory” box. What she didn’t know was that whenever Karl & I traveled, we always brought Robyn some type of box back with us to give her. 2. The night before we left for Honolulu, six of our friends (Mike & Ann Lanser, Art & Sharon Gordon & Robert & Judy Stone) took us out to dinner. They had no idea that the restaurant they took us to was the last place Robyn & I had lunch together the week she came home for Kyle’s birthday. 3. One of Robyn’s friends, Gee Sybleem, had posted a tribute on Robyn’s Facebook of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” sung by Israel “IZ” Kamakawiwo'ole. After landing in Honolulu and on our way to the hotel, we saw the most vibrant, beautiful rainbow we had ever seen. (You can watch the video at the following website)… (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w_DKWlrA24k&ob=av3n). 4. The night after we arrived in Honolulu, and after stopping at a couple of restaurants for dinner & then deciding against them, we ended up at “Cheeseburger in Paradise”. After placing our order, I pulled out a notebook with 8x10 pictures of Robyn to share. Our favorite (which was the cover page of the notebook) was taken somewhere at a restaurant in Oahu where Robyn was eating a slice of pineapple. When we asked Reggie where the picture had been taken, he looked at it for a while, and then with tears in his eyes he pointed to a table next to where we were eating. 5. The dolphins…besides what I shared above, the other interesting fact is that usually dolphins surface in front of moving boats. We had been sitting still in the water for the service, and just as we got up to scatter her ashes, they appeared. The funeral director was saying that it was truly a blessing…he has been on many scatterings, but rarely do they see dolphins and this was the first time he had seen them surface while the boat was not moving. 6. Reggie brought all of Robyn’s belongings to the hotel. Kyle & Noel had taken her clothes to their room to go through. When they got to the last item of clothing, a penny fell out. The penny was “1985”, the year Robyn was born. 7. While touring the island before leaving, we stopped at Dole Plantation. While there, my sister-in-law Laura won an opportunity to open an oyster and was rewarded with a beautiful black pearl. While looking at pendant settings, she saw a turtle pendant that spoke to her & she selected that setting. Robyn loved turtles and on her agenda was to go to the North Shore to see the Sea Turtles when they migrated. 8. At the same time that Laura was selecting a turtle pendant, my sister Patt was having a painter paint a small banner that said “ROBYN”. The painter used different animals for each letter (for example the “N” was a butterfly), and he had chosen a turtle to be the “O”. 9. We stopped at a pullout on the east side of Oahu that was the most beautiful place any of us had ever seen. We stayed there quite a while, as we just couldn’t get enough of it. After getting back in the car to leave, Kyle opened the pictures Robyn had posted on Facebook and there was the picture she had taken of herself with this place in the background. She had said it was the most beautiful place in the world. 9 signs…9 of us to say “Aloha” to Robyn in Oahu.
